My Word and an NSV

I actually had a problem thinking of a word to define my journey this year. Last year my word was Believe. I didn't really get its true meaning until last fall when it finally hit that I would succeed with the band.

As I pondered a word, I actually Googled "inspiring words" but nothing jumped out at me til I realized one thing. I was NOT very patient. So that became my word for this year:
Patience–noun
  1. the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.
  2. an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay.
  3. quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence.
Here is a start to putting patience into my life:
  • Patience when I hit a plateau and the weight comes off so slowly.
  • Patience when listening to others at home and work even when it takes forever for them to get to the point.
  • Patience to control my temper when things irritate me.
  • Patience to take one day at a time, to stop and smell the roses, to live in the moment because we don't really know how many moments we have left.

My Little NSV
I'm going to be a Mother-of-the-Bride. My daughter and her beau were engaged over the holiday. The wedding probably won't be until 2012 but both my hubby and I are delighted for them.

A year ago, my first thought would have been, "OMG I will look so fat in the photos". This year the thought didn't even cross my mind until today. Maybe it isn't a little NSV. It's a Major NSV for me.

(If you are new and don't know the term, NSV = Non-Scale Victory (or sometimes Non Surgical Victory). It took me months to figure that one out when I first started blogging. Thanks Justine for helping me with the defn.)

Great word! Patience is something all of us bandsters need, without a doubt.

Congratulations on your impending Mother-of-the-Bride status. And I like your NSV. You are going to look GREAT in the photos!

(BTW, I thought NSV stood for Non-Scale Victory rather than Non-Surgical?)

Absolutely - after reading blogs for over 2 years and trying to make helpful comments, I reckon it should be the most important word in a bandit's vocabulary. It's at the bottom of every complaint with the band. Good on ya!

I LOVE your word. I'm still thinking about mine, but hoping to nail it down by the weekend.

My girls are still so young, but I can't wait for down the road (way down the road) when they get married. My wedding day was one of the best days of my life and am looking forward to that day for them. I am so happy for you and I think it's a major NSV that your first thought wasn't fear of how you were going to look. Ultimately, living life to the fullest, happiest and healthiest is what losing weight is about. Good for you!

I love your word! Right after my twins were born my husband had to leave for an internship leaving my with 2 newborns, a 6 year old, and a 10 year old to care for. I wrote "Be Patient" on a post it and stuck it to my bathroom mirror. It stayed there for 6 months. :) I really think it helped.

Congrats on your growing family!
